The prestigious BIA-Hawaii Building Industry Design & Construction Awards competition celebrates excellence and recognizes collaborative partnerships within the design and construction industry. We are always impressed by the entries! The complete guide to the awards is published in this issue, and here I’ll highlight a few of the winning projects.

To take advantage of our beautiful surroundings, the winner in our Outdoor Living Residential category, submitted by Pacific Pool & Spa, created a beautifully serene pool deck and spa area with clean and simple lines and surrounded by a lush tropical landscape.

With our recent record-breaking temperatures, we’re all striving to make our homes cooler and more energy-efficient. The winner (pictured) in the Hawaii BuiltGreen™ Division – LEED Certified Residential, Hale Ahiki, submitted by Mokulua High Performance Builder and Fujita & Netski Architecture, was certified to ENERGY STAR®, EPA Indoor AirPLUS and LEED for Homes v4 Platinum.

In the Hoakalei community of Ewa, a beautifully designed golf course clubhouse is the 2019 Overall Grand Award winner. Peter Vincent Architects’ winning entry is a clubhouse that unites with the golf course, creating a more enhanced golfing experience, and providing club members with a variety of social amenities.

Carl Reppun was the first committee chair when the competition began as the BIA Renaissance Awards. A highly competitive award in his name is given to a small-volume contracting company for excellence in residential work. We congratulate Moorhead & Company Inc. for this well-deserved honor this year!

Thank you to all of our entrants and congratulations to all of our 2019 winners!

Gladys Quinto Marrone is CEO of the Building Industry Association – Hawaii.
