Looking back, the best part of my daily routine growing up was sitting down to family dinner in our kitchen.
The tv was off — unless it was an important sports event — and we’d share a home-cooked meal and talk about our day, whether at work, school or playing in the neighborhood.
They say the kitchen is the heart of the home, and I believe it’s true. It’s a gathering place for families, where we refuel our hearts, minds and bellies over great food and conversation.
Our annual Kitchen & Bath Issue brings inspiration for these two most important spaces within the home. Design pros share what people are craving for the look and functionality of their kitchens, including high-tech and smaller appliances, open floor plans and simple, clean design. Our surface guide provides a deep dive into a variety of countertop materials to help you choose the one that’s best for your lifestyle and budget.
And if you’re planning to renovate your bathroom, browse through this issue to find inspiring bathrooms with distinctly different designs, from powder rooms to master baths. Plus, check out our suggestions for simple upgrades that can make a big improvement in the look and feel of your bathroom, and advice for how to get it done before the holidays.
This issue also celebrates excellent design, with the Editor’s Choice Award in the American Institute of Architects – Honolulu chapter’s Design Awards competition. This contemporary home, designed by Wander X Wonder, is a luxuriously casual beach house getaway for the owner. Each of the home’s bedrooms have an en suite bath, and the master bath’s soaking tub has an ocean view.
Want to see more award-winning work? Be sure to pick up next month’s issue, which will reveal the Building Industry Design & Construction Awards from the Building Industry Association – Hawaii and the National Kitchen & Bath Association Aloha Chapter.
We hope these stories bring you the inspiration you need to get your kitchen, bath and other home upgrades off the ground.
