BIA-Hawaii Cancels 2020 Summer Home Show
The show must go on – in 2021.
The Building Industry Association of Hawaii has canceled its 2020 Summer Home Building & Remodeling Show due to logistical challenges and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“While the decision to cancel the Big Summer Home Building & Remodeling Show was a difficult one, BIA-Hawaii is busy planning 2021 events as well as designing new programs to add value to our members and engage our industry during this time when homes are more essential than ever before,” says Jessica Leorna, CEO of BIA-Hawaii.
BIA-Hawaii typically holds two home shows per year – in January and August – to give Hawaii homeowners the opportunity to meet with hundreds of home builders, designers and material suppliers, all in one place at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall. The semiannual shows provide the inspiration and connections that homeowners need to get their remodeling ideas off the ground.
“The decision to cancel the Big Summer Home Building & Remodeling Show was a difficult one,” writes Peter Eldridge in a letter to BIA-Hawaii members. Eldridge is the BIA-Hawaii Events Committee chair and president of Raynor Hawaii Overhead Doors. Eldridge notes that under Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s current orders, an event such as the home show “would be restricted to 50 people, with further restrictions to adhere to the required social distancing measures.”
BIA-Hawaii is continuing with plans for the January Big Home Building & Remodeling Show, set for Jan. 22-24, 2021.
Eldridge says the BIA will aim to make the January home show the most successful ever. “Consumers are spending more time in their homes and they look to us to provide long-term value and beauty,” he writes. “We won’t let them down.”
