September marks National Preparedness Month and with hurricane season already upon us — running from June 1 through Nov. 30 — it’s more important than ever to equip your family with the necessary items to stay safe. City Mill’s safety and facilities manager, Frank Suster, says, “It’s not a matter of if, it’s when we will get a hurricane.” Although hurricane season runs for six months, Hawaii residents still have to be prepared for earthquakes and tsunamis year-round. Emergency kits are easy to put together, so don’t wait until disaster strikes to start yours.

Above: First-aid kits, fire extinguishers and flashlights are must-haves for a quality emergency kit, but don't forget about board games to pass the time and a waterBOB to store up to 100 gallons of drinking water. These often sell out as storms approach, so buy one now to keep on hand.
