3 Furniture Trends to Watch
Black and White and Organic Materials Are In

Twice a year, thousands of retailers and designers come to Las Vegas Market — the most comprehensive furniture and home décor show in the western United States — to check out what’s new, what’s hot and to tap into the hottest trends for the coming season. “They’ve done a good job of capturing the essence of more than just furniture. It was a well-rounded show,” says Velvet Lettner of C.S. Wo & Sons. “There was a focus this year on the outdoors, rugs, gifts … Home design isn’t just about sofas any longer.”
Lettner, who has been in the furniture industry for more than 20 years, clues us in on what to look for in the remainder of 2016 and beyond:
Coastal Chic
Lettner says coastal chic is her favorite new trend. “It’s a more sophisticated coastal look that combines seashells, sea glass and weathered, distressed elements with silver and gold metallic,” she says. “I love the ocean and mixing in the more glamorous elements really elevates the beach look that has been around for a few years.”
Organic & Reclaimed Materials
“The different materials will work in many different applications,” says Lettner. “Live edge tables with metal bases will be featured in a more contemporary manner, while the rustic, weathered tables can be shown in a coastal or cottage space. We will be mixing in all the different elements into every part of the store.”
Black & White
The tried-and-true color combination is timeless and effortless. “It’s still trending,” says Lettner. “They blend with grays and gold and pop with blues and pale pinks.” While considering trending colors, don’t overlook grays. “It seems to be the continued neutral color,” she adds. “The grays range from the cooler grays with blue undertones, to warmer grays with a chocolate or beige undertone.”
